KHANATE
24 09 2006 Recent discussions have dictated a direction where KHANATE has called it a day. Thanks for the six years of attention, interest, touring, megastructure and tension. We will continue to pursue the release of our 4th studio work (which is in the mixing phase) and the Japanese reissues of our first two releases, via Daymare.

i know some of you are really into them, i'm personally not a big fan.

i've never really been able to get into them, i kind of regret not going to see them play now as i kind of thought that if i was ever going to get my head round them it would be by seeing them play.

heard about this, big bummer. esspecially because i didnt get to see them live :(

Maybe this means Sunn O))) will get more attention?

I already hear far more about SunnO))) than Khanate as it is.

from what i read about it plotkin called it a day because "certain members" didn't have much commitment anymore because of being involved in "other bands". it wouldn't be much of a guess who and which band he's referring to.

soma's also overworking he's ass off.

and yeah, sunn o))) are far more popular than khanate, they get a lot more attention.

That's because Sunn o))) > Khanate.

FUCk! I loved khanate. I was introduced to them quite a while ago. I still prefer Sunn0))). Khanate had such a powerful mood in their music though, a shame that they're gone :(.

"Extreme doom" metal band KHANATE, the brainchild of Stephen O'Malley (THORR'S HAMMER, BURNING WITCH, SUNN 0))), LOTUS EATERS) and James Plotkin (OLD, SCORN, ATOMSMASHER), has disbanded. In a statement, Plotkin writes, "I have decided to leave KHANATE due to the lack of commitment of certain members. The decision was a difficult one, as I've put six years and immeasurable amounts of creativity into the band hoping to take it as far as possible. The past year has brought about many missed opportunities and the realization that some players are more concerned with personal careers and day jobs rather than the advancement of music as an artform.

"I will continue to work with drummer Tim Wyskida on a number of other projects, mainly KHLYST and our improvisational duo.

"Gratitude to all those that have supported what we have done and acknowledged our importance in modern music.

"The companion album to 'Capture & Release' is currently being mixed. This yet-untitled work consists of spontaneous recordings made during the 'C&R' sessions dating back to February 2005. This will be my final work in KHANATE. There are plans for Japanese issues of the self-titled and 'Things Viral' CDs with expanded packaging and bonus discs with unreleased material."
