If No Age got a little better
No Age has been getting big over the last few years. Like, astonishingly big. Really, all they've released is a bunch of EP's and an album, but somehow they've made top 50 albums lists consistently with every release since Weirdo Rippers.
Part of me thinks that now is the time for them to release some crazy experimental statement. Something really iconic. If they did so, and expanded their sound, I think they could be one of those bands that we look back on and think of as being representative of an era (e.g. SY for the latter '80s). They need to start fucking around more; more weird songs. Longer, louder, and more dynamic. Right now they're like our Husker Du, but they have potential to be even more. |
i like no age but they've gotten worse in recent releases, and i don't really see what you're getting at anyways

I'm just babbling. I tend to babble at around 4:45 on Fridays for some reason :)
Tick tock. |
i liked Nouns but i haven't even heard of them since then (could be my fault).

Listen to Everything In-Between. It's got a much poppier approach than Weirdo Rippers, which to me sounded so awesomly and classically post-punky that I could hardly stand it, and I avoided it for a while because of that. But they do pop really really well. I think they'd benefit from making their sound a bit more experimental and spacey, but I think that about every band. Spacier = better. :) |

I think No Age never thinks about getting more experimental. They've never hinted at it before, why start now when what they're doing is working for them?
|
Experimentation doesn't work for every band, you know.

I only own Get Hurt, which is a great little slab of fun, i think theyre one of those bands that works better in the 5-6 song format than the album format which is why I never liked Nouns back when it came out and i still dont think its up to much as an album

I don't know. I kind of think that weirder = better, as a rule. |
conscious attempts to be weird are almost always annoying

Is correct. If youre a jittery punk band, concentrate on being the best jitery punk band you can be. |

That's true, but I often find myself thinknig "this band is good, but I wish they would shake things up a little more". But I was raised on Revolver and Pet Sounds, so I think this expectation was handed down to me by baby-boomer parents. ;) |

Agreed and that should be the end of this thread. It's No Age, of all bands to discuss this about. |
