A Christmas Carol (help me)

I'm doing this homework for my media arts class, and it is "10 Essential Movies" and why. One of the movies I chose was A Christmas Carol, I'm just trying to figure out how to put it in words exactly why it is essential... any suggestions?

k-krack 10.15.2006 05:38 PM

I agree with you on that, no one! Thanks!

Any film with Alastair Sim is essential (presuming you're talking about the 1951 version).

Other than that, not a great film.

I'm not trying to be spiteful, but I would not have picked the movie unless I knew how to convey why it is essential.

k-krack 10.15.2006 05:47 PM

Oh come on, I can't just say an actor, silly. Could you just help!?

Pookie 10.15.2006 05:48 PM

True. Always best to make things easy for yourself: picking stuff you like is a good start.

I know basically what I want to say, I just don't know how to say it.

I'd like to say something about Scrooge over-coming his miserly, cold-hearted ways and returning to the generous chap he was as a kid, prior to his sisters death... y'know?

But I see what you mean, and there is no way that I am rewriting the entire page I have written because I am in a bit of a rut with one of ten.

Trouble is, it's just simply not a particularly great, or 'essential' film in my view, so I'll stand aside and let somebody else try to give a hand.

Пятхъдесят Шест 10.15.2006 05:51 PM

I see.

Though, you're commenting on the story itself, and not the movie. We all know the story, but what makes the movie essential?

Glice 10.15.2006 05:51 PM

I'm dreadfully sorry to say this, and I hope you don't take any offense at it, it really is meant in the lightest of humours.

BUT.

Do your own fucking homework you lazy, workshy bastard. For fuck's sake. "Oooh, I have to talk about something I'm interested in, woe is me". For fuck's sake. Get off the internet, have a wank, sit down and do your own homework.

Did we ever find out if Robin Hood was a real person?

k-krack 10.15.2006 05:53 PM

Glice, easy man! I have done 95% of this, and I am having a bit of trouble with one part. Let's not get bitchy, please.

Was Scrooge a real person?

k-krack 10.15.2006 05:55 PM

Robin Hood: I think 'we' came to the conclusion he was based on a real person for sure. Maybe not real hisself, though... correct me if I am wrong.

Scrooge: no... he was fictional.

Yes! He is real, and he won the Nobel Peace Prize this weekend.

Glice 10.15.2006 05:56 PM

I don't know. Let's drag the thread up and find out! Maybe there's a bit in there about what k-krack's opinion is on a Christmas Carol as well.

I think you are being a wise-ass.

A better movie with similar themes is Capra's "Its A Wonderful Life"
