Box Set of Kinks when Kinks were good (mono!)
![]() WANT!!! Does anybody else like the Kinks? :) |
People who try to be cool by saying The Kinks were better than the Beatles are usually pretentious arseholes. But the Kinks were definitely brilliant too
|
that's awesome, I have two of those discs and often look for the others. how much?

Not better than the Beatles by a long shot. Or the Stones. But still really good, for a while there. |

Hey don't bother with any greatest hits compilations. They're good, but they miss a lot. The Kinks' were at their best on the album cuts during the late '60s'. Just download these albums: The Kinks are the Village Green Preservation Society Arthur Lola vs powerman and the moneygoround. |
^^^
good advice there...that live record was when the kinks morphed into a popular american arena band. def. get Something Else, Face to Face and Village Green too. |
That's a good Kinks song
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uhOha...eature=related And the Cover Version by the Chocolate Watch Band is even better http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yWc-TdQ2LCU ^That's one of my all time favorite garage rock songs |
see "4 tunna brix"

I love the Kinks. It may be that I've just worn myself thin on the Beatles, but I think the Kinks are the best of the British Invasion bands.
You know I haven't listened to all their 1970s work, but they weren't utter shit in the 70s. I love Muswell Hillbillies & Preservation Act I. Two awesome albums that are overlooked by a lot of Kinks fans. |
Nobody's mentioned "Victoria"?!?!
That's the best Kinks tune ever! |

Maybe they're better than the Stones I don't know. But remember the Beatles were pretty snarky at times. Example: "Piggies". John was a pissed off dude. |

Wasn't that George? & I really want this box badly. The early just straight up rnr stuff kicks so much ass in mono. Real powerful. |
Quote:
You're right. Sorry. John contributed a line or two, forget which. Man that's one of my favorite albums ever! How could I have missed that. :( |
I love the Kinks. Especially "Do you remember Walter?"
|

Oh yeah. That's a great tune! I think Village Green is like the blue print for many of the "kooky" indie-rock artists of the last two decades. Spoon, for instance. I can imagine Spoon putting out... well... just about ANY Kinks song and seeing it become a college-radio "hit". Many bands have stolen from the Kinks, few have acknowledged them. :( |

No. It's Victoria. hands down. no contest. :) |
My favorite Kinks songs:
Fancy I'm Not Like Everybody Else Dead End Street Sunny Afternoon Funny Face Death of a Clown Wicked Annabella Village Green Preservation Society Mr. Shoemaker's Daughter Some Mother's Son Get Back in Line Uncle Son Muswell Hillbilly There's a Change of the Weather Where Are They Now? |
