Pelt?
Is this band worth my time?
I am rather intrigued by a number of reviews I have read, yet rarely hear discussion of them amongst people whose taste in music I find trustworthy. Do please elucidate this matter for me. Should I give them a go, and if so where shall I begin? Yours, Beard |
yes yes yes pelt are really good. pearls from the river is a good place to start and get as much jack rose stuff as you can.
|
I don't know them that well but, damnit,i have one of their records that is cool.Do you happen to know a band called Van Pelt too? They're ace too.
|
"Ayahuasca" is most excellent and I would imagine you would like it. The earlier releases are very much noisier affairs, but by this point they have become much more acoustically based and drone/meditative. The caliber of musicianship in this trio is superior to almost any ensemble I can think of in the entire free folk/"weird America" stable. Given your taste I would be surprised if you didn't like this album.

Excellent. That's what I was hoping to hear.
There is a big stack of Pelt CDs sitting at my local record store that have been calling my name for some time, but I was weary of making the financial commitment without the official approval of the Sonic Board. Now to the record store with me. |
_for michael hannahs_ is awesome, but was in print for about 30 minutes. _empty bell ringing in the sky_ and _max meadows_ are really great, and should be available. and yes, if you are into the steel string guitar world, jack rose should be sought out immediately. top tier for sure...amazing musician. had the pleasure talking and listening to the man last saturday...here are some photos:

Jack is one of the greatest guitarists I have ever seen.
|
pelt are great, ayahuasca is probably my favourite.
and don't forget black twigs (or black twig pickers as they were before), a wonderful appalachian folk-y side project. |
Ayahuasca and Max Meadows get my vote. Also Pearls From the River is pretty good.
|
i also like their newish self titled one. their track on the fahey tribute is really good too, wish they'd do more like that, sort of halfway between pelt and black twig. jack rose has inherited fahey's throne, imoho.

![]() Blasting "Pearls From The River" through my headphones. Sensational, well constructed music. Brilliant... Also didn't know Jack Rose was in the band, that makes A LOT of sense. |
