Sound and Concrete Walls
I think the walls in my room are concrete. Whenever I play music at a loud volume... like, yesterday, I played the Cocteau Twin's Lullabies to Violaine while I was in front of my computer: the majority of the sound, coming from the foot-high/foot-wide stereo under my bed that's maybe 5 feet away (I placed it under my bed because the bass booms a hell of a lot more that way for some reason), hit my right ear. However certain droning melodic tones hummed in my left ear; a wall's to my left. And when I touched the wall beside me I could "feel" the music. I love this room! I love wall-to-wall music!
Can anyone explain the reason for this? |
jesus and/or science.

Jesus and science are inseparable? I certainly do feel a kind of rush whenever the sounds sort of drone against the walls. |
we used to play in the basement of this house I used to rent a room from, and it had a small concrete room that had awesome acoustics... too bad the guys I played with there sucked, or I would have recorded something in there :)

My friend's shitting basement has a cement floor, and electricutes you if your lip touches the mic.

what you are describing is called a standing wave, this occurs when the wave form is as long as the distance between your walls. for example a 20hz sine wave is approximately 17 meters wide, so if you have a room 17 meters wide that frequency will bounce from one wall to the other quite easily, as it hits each wall it loses approximately half of its power which is about 6db. this makes that frequency sound for longer than all others in the room.

Was it the "feel the music" part that Lynched you? Must have been. |
When I was a little kid and my Dad was working construction he used to take me inside of empty water tanks. like this one

einsturzende neubauten recorded one track in a big disused metal watertower near berlin. the results reverberrated around the record like a big clanging echo.........concrete music? you need to be a big fucking brick to like that!!!
