What turntable should I buy?
I'm planning to buy a turntable for home listening purposes as well as for occasional live playing.
But as I'm a complete noob into stuff like that, is there any particular model that I should check out? Not very expensive, yet solid quality. |
I would assume that it's the speakers that makes the turntable. Unless you need, for some reason, a new turntable I'd buy a used one (and probably a new needle) and a good set of speakers (with a preamp).
Mine was $10 at a flea market (junk store) and it sounds pretty good. |

pick whatever model of these you can afford. this is a good store... wait. you're not in the u.s. are you? you called DC a ghetto-- FUCK YOU :D no, seriously, i dont know what's available in your market. maybe something used. new. i dont know about your prices. maybe something german. |
Good needles/ good speakers are more important than the deck itself, although the very cheapest turntables will always be shit.
|
Thanks mates...I've got pretty solid quality speakers and preamp so I'll guess I'll do nothing wrong by picking up some medium-prized deck.
|
my suggestion is to try to find find some used reloop or technics dj deck, their cheap and of very good quality.
|
technics sl1200 if you want to go live

you shouldn't have fecked with my one true lurve.... anyway hm ha ha where do you live though? see i'd give you the shopping options at lpgear but they are based in nevada, and will they ship to you? http://www.lpgear.com/Merchant2/merc...ry_Co de=TURN now im thinking if you're gonna be spinning you'll need a direct drive tt--- belt driven just won't work |
no spinning, no schratching, none of this DJ bullshit. just Philip Jeck-like experimental textured stuff
btw, I live just across the hill to Nevada - I live in Central Europe. |

across the hill by way of transylvania? :D hm well if you buy used (occasionally a good thing) you might find a good european make... like thorens i think... http://www.hiaudio.co.uk/links.htm ?? what i like about those lpgear products i posted in the previous post is they are carefully chosen @ every price point & their improved versions do make a difference. maybe see if they sell similar around where you live. internet commerce is a bitch... |
