we want Jim!
!!!
|
|
Yes, I want Jim. I paid him upfront to clean my house each week until the end of March. He did it once in December and I haven't seen him since. If you find him, tell him the dust on my radiators is terrible.
|
eh, he brought nothing spectacular to the sonic youth table, just filler guitar, and bass on tour while kim sang, and a desire to "clean up" the sonic youth sound.
let him enjoy his japanese movies. |
"Clean up" the Sonic Youth sound? He's never cleaned up my living room!!

I say sonic youth loses NOTHING by having Jim depart!
therefore, he is not and was never INTEGRAL! |

sonic nurse is the best album ever made, thanks to jim i guess

Does Jim really want SY fans anymore wonders James Blonde.
|
I really like Murray Street, it was a pleasant corner SY turned. Maybe they just made Rather Ripped to please Jim soundwise.
|
thurston said they mad erather ripped because coco wanted an album based on the theme songs fo her favorite cartoons! ha ha!
for real though, we got washing machine (skronk supreme) we got a thousand leaves (skronk supreme) and the with Jim we get the laid back country rock stylings of murrray street? habahahah! just kidding. he did bring something cool to th table but his real contribution to sonic youth was in the recording studio, having lost their old guitars, jim helped them create a new sonic youth sound. for that i a m grateful, but that midget fuck did not write songs, he did not write lyrics, he did as he was told. OG sonic youth forever!!! |
Eh?

Nice post! |
jim was superfluous! a neat experiment that ran it's course!
asking for jim back in sonic youth is like asking van halen to go get that poodle head fuck from Extreme because he was just sooo great! ![]() |
I'm not asking for anyone back to be perfectly honest with you but to diminish the talent that he brought to the band(unless you're kidding, which i gather you are) is a bit much.My potatoes overboiled, you arsehole!
|
Jim is a talented mo-fo, no disputing that! But to say sonic youth is "better" with jim (which is implied by those who want Jim back) is wrong in my book.

Edit: your last post made things much more clear indeed. |

I saw Jim play with sonic youth on two separate tours. He played extra guitar, very much in the background to lee and thurston, and when kim sang up front, jim would play the bass parts of the songs. My references were to the recorded output of sonic youth. not jim improvising on stage. sonic youth forever!!!!! |
Where is this all going anyway?Sonic Youth Life?!Jim O' Rourke brought a way to texture noise to the music of SY that is undeniable regardless of this or that.It didn't work out, fine, but it could have been better times than most of the 'official' output of the past few years.Wether your opinion is different than mine or not it is a fact of life but then i don't expect you to hear things the same way as i do.In the meantime, though, there wasn't just SY playing music on this earth and they have been surpassed by more interesting stuff being played by other bands.Older or not is not even important.
