based on experience it probably means that the switch is going bad, as its not keeping connection to either keeping the effect on/off... i also have a fuzz factory but i haven't really examined the "guts", i believe that the switch is not hardwired to the board which will make putting a replacement switch easier...

which fuzz factory do you have? the vexter series units have an LED which would require a 3pdt type switch to make it true-bypass w/ an LED, the hand painted originals have a dpdt switch to the best of my knowledge as these units do not have an LED. Small bear electronics is a good place to get replacement parts for effects (also there is Mouser, forget Ratshack they don't have these type of switches anyways). you need to de-solder the old switch and solder in the new switch making sure all the connections go to the same place (which are the board inputs/outputs, jack inputs/outputs, ground and LED if necessary).
