It's not completely ignorant to disregard scientific reasoning; science is just a best guess and uses a factor of probability. I'm not religious in the slightest and due to that I tend to side with science as opposed to belief in religion, but both things have their place in deciding what really accumulates to our universe.
However, to completely disregard a scientific theory in favour of a blind religious stab in the dark is, to me, old fashioned.
