Haha, "doesn't sound like the original version"?... Play both side by side -- there's no difference between the two (I even kept the kinda awkward "false start" riff from the beginning of the original). I didn't change a single thing -- same chord sequences, same beat, same lyrics, same structure. The solo at the end is a bit different, since I didn't like the original solo, other than that, there's literally no difference, the whole concept was that I was going to make it genuinely lo-fi, instead of just going into GarageBand and distorting clean guitar tracks into the red. So, I did. That's funny, though, that it's possible to take a song and play it completely the same and not change a single thing about it except the way it's produced and trick people!

I thought the most interesting thing was how the mic picked up the telephone, as well as the amp in the next room. If anyone's wondering, I did it for some website that specifically asked me to record it for them and said my version (he'd already gotten more than 10 versions of it) was his favorite. I wonder if the site is still around.

Also, if anyone wants to do their own cover, it's really simple.. power chord on the two lowest strings... 5-9-10 for verses. Chorus is 5-9-2-10. Then just play some single string stuff for the solo. End of song.
