Next question...is there a difference between a Smart phone and an iPhone?
What about the one you have? Do ya like it/does it suck? What features are worth having?
My current phone is from the Flintstones era.

an iphone is a smartphone. in other words a little computer. there are all kinds that go with all sorts of different networks. last i read (somewhere i don't recall), the droid has been outselling the iphone for the past 6 months (and it works on verizon, and has flash, etc).

i wouldn't want a smart phone. i don't want to have email following me everywhere. i answer email twice a day. otherwise it's a huge timesuck.

also, there are the "data charges " (about $40/mo) that you have to pay ON TOP of your cellphone bill. i have the cheapest cellphone ($25) and it's a prepay. when at home/ office, i just call w/ google voice (for free) and when im out i have no need to be constantly twattering about my whereabouts, so the prepay suffices.

if you wanna try the "joys" of a smartphone without the monthly overpays and without the ipad pricetag get yourself an ipod touch. you could get the cheapest one of the line (8Gb, $229) and don't let the aple store twats give you the upsell-- it's what they are trained to do. but don't jump into this yet.

because, as an educator, you *might* get a discount-- those are generally for computers + applecare, but every now & then it's possible to get cheeper toys: http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/findyourschool

and finally: apple sells refurbished products in their website. they are a little bit hidden but you can find them. the beauty of this is that besides being cheaper, they come w/ the same 1yr warranty as the new ones.

refurbs for teh win:

sweet deal here: http://store.apple.com/us/product/FB...co=MTY3ODQ5OTY $149 instead of $229

that's the perfect trial balloon for your ambitions. they come w/ wifi, itunes, you can get the same crummy apps, bookface, and everything that the iphone has except for the AT&T-tethered line+ the stoophid data charges. monthly obligations are the fastest road to financial slavery.

oh and i dont know anything about the knockoffs btw
