"Firefly" star Alan Tudyk has been cast as Stephen A. Douglas in 20th Century Fox's big-screen adaptation of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, reports Variety.

Timur Bekmambetov is directing the 3D summer tentpole from a script by author Seth Grahame-Smith. Helmer is also producing the project along with Tim Burton and Jim Lemley.

Benjamin Walker stars in the title role, while the rest of the cast includes previously announced Anthony Mackie, Dominic Cooper, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Jimmi Simpson and Aussie actress Robin McLeavy (The Loved Ones), who recently signed on to play Lincoln's mother.

"The story concerns the former president's quest to rid the world of vampires, which is presented as the real conflict behind the Civil War."

In the book, Lincoln debates Douglas, who is depicted as an ally of the Southern vampires.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is skedded for release on June 22, 2012.
