it's a way of saying 'yeah, we know, but we don't want to know or care, so SHUT UP and let us get on with it.' but they don't 'know', don't want to know, and are still holding strong to their delusions. that's why they make the comment in the first place. it's just a cover for what you really want to say, which is 'be positive or shut up'.
