No I'm absolutely serious. People in this city DON'T buy new bikes because of it. They get used bikes or build them from scratch (by stealing parts of locked up bikes). Having a car in Montreal is ridiculous because it's slower than Metro or bike, so it's pretty high demand.
Also the language issue is pretty bad. Sometimes there's marches in the Plateau of people holding signs chanting "Fuck les anglais!". My brother got jumped twice for running into drunk french purists that didn't like him because he was english.
