let's create an alternate path for this thread, straight up back to the future 2 style, and everyone post an interesting fact; I'll start...

Fact: Aristotle did not come up with the idea of earth being at the center of the universe. Pythagoras did. He believed that everything in the universe (or in the solar system really, since that's all he knew the universe to be) moved on spheres around the earth, and these spheres created music throughout the universe. This same line of thought lead him also to create the musical scale, which we now use to define notes. This scale is so ingrained in our minds that it's hard to think of notes outside of this scale, although some artists, such as Harry Partch, have experimented with these "outside" notes.
