There may be no
shame to it (although shame on anyone if that's all they do or all they hope to do) but what if you don't have the money to actually
participate in the consumer society? Shopping centres etc aren't much fun if you're on the dole. And I tend to think even those few who can afford to shop non-stop aren't the happiest of people. Have you ever seen Victoria Beckham smile, at least in a way that makes her appear happy?
