From what I can gather nowadays, everyone I know who is ill and visits the doctor is being encouaged to have anti depressents, despite all the evidence making it clear that they are not required. There's some kind of unnofficial policy going on (at least within the NHS on Mersyside) to try to get people to take these things. I'm not sure why that might be though.
