I just don't think defenses can adapt if the 3pt shooting percentages keep improving because 3pt shooting spreads the floor and opens up the hoop and no matter what paint shots will always be the most efficient. Indeed initially "small ball" was about having just the threat of 3pt shooting open up driving lanes for dunks and layups BUT the Spurs and Warriors been so unnaturally effecient at 3pt shooting that they just opting to take the 3s!!! Perhaps a hyper trap defense like the 2012 Heat or 1988 Pistons could pull it off but that Heat lost to Spurs 3pt shooting eventually and Pistons got beat by the Triangle.
