Ok, the Aphex Twin rub is fair. I'll get back to that.

But "Fake Plastic Trees" bears absolutely no resemblance to Pavement... certainly not Pavement circa '92. Where are you getting this? Even if what you're saying is that The Bends is somehow an attempt to milk U.S. Indie, I don't get it. The Bends is pure "college cool guy does early '90s U2," with a bit of "God I wish we were Pulp" tossed in for flavor. It's a big, bombastic, lush radio rock record. It has some nice moments, but it the diametric opposite to Pavement.

...

Re: Kid Aphex Twin ... Like I said, damn fair. Most people don't realize just how much the sound and shape of Kid A was built a foundation laid by RDJ. Even the people who claim to get it seem to be just picking up the thread of something they heard from Stereogum.

If people really got it, Kid A would not be heralded as the most influential and important album of the 00's. Rather than being seen as something new and fresh, it would be considered a near-tribute album. Like Arcade Fire's Neon Bible was to Bruce Springsteen.

I still love the album, but this is just the way it is.
