If you haven't read Watchmen, you absolutely need to read Watchmen. If you're entertaining any plans of heading into the DCU for Rebirth, having prior knowledge of Watchmen is an absolute necessity.

I'm of two minds about the comic itself. I don't actually think it's the greatest graphic novel of all time. Far from it really. But it's simply brilliant from a "big picture" perspective, and it contains some of the absolute best and most influential writing in comic history. It's definitely a must-read.

(I've always kinda wished someone other than Gibbons had drawn it. I just don't care for his art. Every face, every hair style, every bulbous eye, looks like it came from the same comic book illustrator's Mr. Potato-Head kit. There were so many more versatile and skilled artists at work in those days. The comic could have been several times better, in my opinion, if it was a little bit more pleasing to look at.)
