By more or less conceding Trump's own excuse/defense and then pushing the discussion towards more obvious and undeniable examples of violent and inflammatory rhetoric is puts the impetus on Trump and his supporters to try and apologize for the inexcusable which will hurt them so much more int he court of public opinion
