She was one of them Teabaggers, sure enough. ("Racist", though? I think not, although those turdballs weren't exactly Black Lives Matter). You know, there's a story about a Velvet Underground show from the Factory days: Maureen was playing, turned around for a moment to watch the film that was projected behind the band, and since it was some fucked up S&M shit she just stood up, walked out and left the gig. Apparently, this caused the Factory crowd to gain more respect for her, as they concluded she was a tough fuck-this chick.
Anyway, that shows you she always had a bit of a conservative streak... but from there to regurgitate Fox News horseshit about Obama's "socialism", yes, that's disgusting.
Having said all that, I still think she was a true artist, from her groundbreaking, endlessly imitated drumming to her lo-fi home-made recordings that capture the essence of Brill Building music's beauty (no small feat) to all-out freakout with Sonic Youth, so I stand by what I said on my previous post: BUY IT.
