yup. When I was in my teens I refused to wear them, my hair would be in chaos. One morning I even arrived at school with a frozen ear.
Dutch winter and especially snow is peanuts when compared to e.g. Austria and US. We have had not even 50cm of snow today, and the whole country is disrupted. We can't even have avalanches, we don't have mountains.
