this is where i think derek has a long distance relationship problem with the u.s.a.
sure, bernie’s policies if implemented would benefit the working and low middle classes the most
but the working and low middle classes in this country don’t have “proletarian consciousness”. they’re all temporarily embarrassed millionaires waiting for their shot at opportunity, even if such opportunity is a mirage. if not them, their children.
most low income americans don’t really want what they perceive as “government handouts” even though when they’re available they will use them. but often they will resent those who use them.
there's also a large percentage of the public who prefers local solutions over federal ones. this is a republic formed out of 50 states plus some territories not a country of 4 million people. one size does not fit all unfortunately.
seems like a logical problem, but it’s not a matter of logic. it’s culture, it’s got its roots in history, and i don’t think it’s going away any time soon.
