I saw them in the early 1990s. Loudest show I have ever seen, and fewer have been more boring. I honestly do not understand why so many people place this band on so high a pedestal. Mascis can play guitar, but his proficiency in flailing doesn't make the actual songs any more compelling. It certainly doesn't help to mask the caterwauling vocals.
I checked out the Rollins show vids to see if I had been missing anything.
I don't think I was. This music was not to my taste when it was current, and has aged terribly to my ears.
However, everyone else seems to think this stuff is awesome, so feel free to take this with a grain of salt if you so desire.
