no, you're the one who is not listening (to what i'm trying to say). you'e just projecting scripts and tropes on me
for me it's not that this is a war about morality or that "it doesn't really matter how many people get killed in the process"
it's that i have no control over it
didnt you watch the youtube you just sent me to?
there is an internal logic to international politics under conditions of anarchy. it's very hobbesian
now, MEARSHEIMER--FUCK YES! that there is the light of reason. he makes perfect sense to me
sachs is a bleeding heart, a nice man, and like mearsheimer says, my heart is with him, but my head is somewhere else. he's naive to think everybody can get along. it has never happened in history and it's never going to happen
you heard it there, from both guests: the policy is not biden's policy (as much as sachs would try to frame it that way by cherrypicking facts), it's united states policy over decades, centuries even, going back to imperial germany (woodrow wilson hi)
now if you were to say to me, in realist terms, the way that mearsheimer says it, that alienating russia is a bad strategy because it distracts from the rising conflict with china, sure, i could agree with you on that basis. but i cannot agree with you on the basis of jeff sachs's or tulsi's arguments. the world just does not work that way
i often drive soup nazi to despair over my frequent answer that "it is what it is" when he protests something, but i really try be lucid and not wishful when observing humans
