I think that's because his "solo" records keep on getting turned into Sonic Youth records. I'm pretty sure he said that the empty page, disconnection notice, and rain on tin were originally meant to be on a solo record (he played them acoustically for about a year before Murray Street came out). Not sure about Nurse, but a lot of those songs seemed like they came mostly from ideas Thurston had, only a little less with that one. The Rather Ripped material also was born from a lot of solo acoustic Thurston jams.

I would really like them to move away from this kind of Thurston-based song writing and really really jam songs out as a band again. Although I guess, with their age, children, tour schedule, and living in different states, its probably easier for them to go this route.
