Trust me 2 hours & 40 minutes of intense shit purely griping. I've seen Sanjuro, 7 Samurai, The Hidden Fortress, Jojimbo, & Rashomon. All I have to say is this one has them all beat. I saw a documentry on Asian cinema & it talked about Ran & how it's one of his least known but one of his best & most influential works & I now believe it. You can see the influence in Hero as far as use of color is concerned. They are two totally different tales but as far as use of color all I have to say is that Ran is written all over Hero. Ran contains a serious plot & great imagery it captures the legacy of the samurai @ it's best. It features betrayal on many ends by different character & it also shows redemtion. Last film I saw that was protraying the samurai this appropriate was Heaven & Earth & if I'm not wrong it was the only movie done on 54 mm film so the shit this movie captures is amaizing, to say the the least. If you get a chance get your hands on both of these films & if you haven't seen Rashomon check that out as well.
