Why don't you want to go down there? It's clearly not that you don't care. I don't think that you need to go there for your sister's sake, there's going to be plenty of time for you to give support to her later, but, by the sound of it, your mum would appreciate the support that you'd give HER if you went with her. But if you think that if you went down there you'd end up going looking for the guy to kick the crap out of him, then it's probably best that you don't go. The last thing you'd want is for him to turn up on your sister's doorstep looking all wounded and using that as a way of getting her sympathy.
