As I do this, I imperceptibly type the words out with an invisible keyboard. This has lent me the odd and very useless ability to almost instantaneously count the number of letters in any word.

shit, i'm the same way. i stammer, and if there's a word i'm trying to get out i spell it in my head over a beat and tap out "1-2-3-4-5678" to say it and i have to tap my eight times. i either do that or make an "s" sound before i start saying it, like "s..just".
