When I think about it, I have no idea why Sonic Youth mean so much to me. What I do know, though, is that they have been one of the few constants in my life in the last twenty years. Friends have come and gone, jobs likewise, but my love of Sonic Youth has always been there.

Obviously the band's music is a large part of what has kept me interested, but that can't have been the only thing, as there have been a couple of albums that I have thought were fairly poor. I think a greater part of it than that is that, to me, the band represents an independent spirit, in the music that it makes, in the way that it presents itself, and in the way that it deals with its fans. It also, these days, represents the hub of a community - that community being this message board - and the spirit of this message board in turn represents the spirit of the band.

Aaah, shit, I'm waffling. I love Sonic Youth. I just do. Okay?
