and you certainly can "help who you are." we are biological organisms with a propensity towards learned behavior. need i remind you of pavlov and skinner's work? it's certainly been applied to humans since rats and dogs. if someone has a negative trait about themselves, they can work to change it.

jose delgado was an expert in brain surgery. it is alleged that he managed, via stimulation of electrodes in the brain, to change sexuality in both heteros and homos.
