hm, i've read good things about bubba ho-tep in "indie" film circles, but it didn't have mainstream success.

anything by the kuchar brothers is not only underrated, but unknown

sam fuller's movies are underrated: shock corridor, the naked kiss, the china gate, the big red one. he's really awesome, though he could be a bit... mmm... pulpish at time.

guy maddin is underrated. not only did "the saddest music in the world" hasn't got the recognition it deserves, but who has even heard of tales from the gimly hospital ???

francois ozon is underrated, perhaps because his sensibilities do not match big american markets.

hadwig and the angry inch is underrated, that movie was fucking awesome.

curse of the golden flower came & went without much fanfare yet it was visually incredible & delicious like an overripe fig.
