Oh, actually the Gwen Stacy death moment was recreated in the first film, for it was the original Green Goblin who killed Gwen Stacy, by dropping her off the bridge, and Spider-man unable to save her. In the first movie Goblin drops Mary Jane and Spider-man does save her, don't go by the movies, as much as they say they were loyal to the comics, they really weren't.
