Australia is the worst place if you are looking for variety in music stores. The most obscure any shop gets is Guided by Voices. It's impossible to find any Jesus Lizard, Shellac (except EIG), Polvo, Unwound etc anywhere.

Sydney has some alright independent stores, nothing as good as Missing Link in Melbourne. Red Eye and Utopia (even though it sucks) would most likely have have all those bands. Title and Paint It Black both have some great shit for more specialised areas. Some of the places that have a large amount of used stock like Lawsons and Egg have some great finds. There's a nice little record store in Erskinville too, forget its name but it's near the station.

The store I work at, Re-pressed Records is way out in Penrith and has both Jesus Lizard and Unwound in stock at a price about as cheap as JB HiFi. A fair bit of our new stock every month would be considered more obscure than GBV. It's a hard slog trying to convince westies how great Electric Eels are though.

SUMMARY: Sydney has some good stores around, it just takes a bit of searching. They seem to be really bad at getting there name out. Title had been open for 2 years before I'd even heard of it.
