The only thing that should be intimidating about Macs is the price, and the mac-mini alieviates that problem (however it doesn't solve the fact the laptops are still more expensive.) Seriously, the whole point of the design is for it to be easy to use and intuitive right out of the box.
The only people who hate Macs who I don't have an argument against are the people who like to build systems and sometimes even hardware for themselves from the ground up. Of course most of them use Linux, which to me
is intimidating just because I'd rather not think that much about my OS and how it's put together.
