I don't think people denigrating discussion into lame-ass 7th grade name calling contests is anything anyone can defend, but it is pretty easy to ignore too.

How many of these stupid threads have we ended up with, though, where somebody felt victimized enough to turn around and post a whole meaningless topic full of their troll-feeding?

Of course in an internet flame war on a message board, I suppose the dedicated topic is the biggest weapon anyone could muster. But doesn't that prove right away how completely meaningless and ineffectual such conflicts are? If your virtual neutron bomb does nothing, then maybe the whole war is a farce to begin with.

Here's a crazy thought, how about arguing about ideas with ideas and letting the cheap shot insults roll off like rain on a windshield leaving town (sorry a bit of a sad attempt at a Lee Ranaldo lyric parody in that metaphor there...)
