What a statement. I mean I guess deciding not to learn chords when becoming a gutiarist can be lamish, but I guess that makes me lame. I don't mean I don't use chords because I do, I love chords. But I can only name maybe ten chords by their given names. I find if you are going to be a "plain" musician and play straight plain music then go ahead and learn the names of 1000 chords and learn all the scales and their augementations. But in doing so you sound like the majority of musicians.
But I'd like to be an original musician by the fact that I rely on only "discovering" chords and different note sequences. I mean look at abstract painters. Sure like traditional painters they use lines, and they use shades, and they use colors, but they use these things in no predefined way. They make art using all the same tools just in a different light.
I say fuck music theory. I also say fuck cover bands and fuc people who think they are great musicians because they can play technical pieces that have already been written. The best musicians in the world are the best because they made something out of nothing, in my eyes at least.
