I don't know man. 40 years living with someone with completely different taste in music would drive me up a wall. What if they liked Toby Keith?

Also, I'm very defensive of my taste, so if this theoretical woman that doesn't like Sonic Youth is outspoken, it is just a recipe for disaster, because she probably hates a lot of other stuff I like and there would be plent of arguments. Also since I play noisy fuzzy arty stuff interspersed with melodies, I'd know that she secretly dislikes my stuff too.
