Gastr Del Sol are one of the best bands of all time. I guess the best description would avant-folk that is beyond beautiful at times and really ugly some other times. Usually drumless and usually very very minimal, the sole focus of the band is almost always obscure lyrics, silence, acoustic guitars (often finger picked with a heavy emphasis on harmonics and WEIRD chording), and subtle electronic manipulations (provided by Jim O'Rourke). Check out Upgrade and Afterlife, easily one of the best albums of all time...
