It's about feeling good about yourself and enjoying your "community"....it really has nothing to do with "stirring up controversy," even though some closed minded religious zealots might think that way. It's about US, not the "non-gays"....that's the whole point. Just because NYC has a large gay population and is much more "tolerant" doesn't mean that people should pack up the floats and say, "Ok, are job is done here. No more parties everybody!!" That is kind of irrelevant to the overal spirit/meaning of pride week.
Oh, and homophobia can be found EVERYWHERE....believe it, man!!
