I talking recently with Jackson Krall who drums for Cecil's big band and he was talking about how Cecil is more on than ever, how the musicians are always amazed of the stamina and inventiveness and sheer beauty this guy creates at his age. Steve Swell told me Cecil never tells them what to do, but if he doesn't like what you're doing he will give them a look that just cuts right through them and they know. Over the past couple years my friend has been putting together a doc on Cecil so I've seen hours of rehearsals and performance videos for his big band and let me tell you, and he still kills. The doc is all done, just waiting on Cecil's ok.
