well, allow me to recommend a thinkpad t series-- great mobile workstation. they are built like a tank, they are solid, they are virtually unbreakable, and you pay a premium for them vs. other brands with the similar features, but it's worth it.

yes, they are no longer made by ibm, they sold that to lenovo in china, but they are still solid and i bet you 99% of it was made in china anyway, as is anything else. i know a place where you can buy them refurbished in the u.s., not sure in australia.

also the dell precisions... any kind of business-class dell--are supposed to be good.

consumer laptops are all generally crap, no matter who makes them. stick to business laptops if you want quality.
