This week on What's This Called? your host Ricardo Wang turns to his eclectic listeners and experimental music fans for a show of support as part of the annual KPSU Pledge Drive!

Because Ricardo and KPSU believe firmly in rewarding their listeners well for chipping in to keep the station running, we've worked out an incredible deal with our underwriter, the incomparable experimental/psychedelic label Beta-lactam Ring Records where by pledging your support you can actually earn back twice as much in records from the BLR catalog!

As incredible as it sounds, it's entirely true, and contains no additional weird conditions or requirements. If you pledge $25 to support KPSU and What's This Called? we will thank you with a $50 gift certificate to Beta-lactam Ring Records' on-line store with no strings attached. For those who can't even come up with $25 (less than most tanks of gas these days...) we'll even extend the offer to a $25 gift certificate for your pledge of $15. So by voting to show experimental music in the daytime is a worthwhile endeavor at KPSU, you are getting to pick out records and cds from a label that contains the likes of Nurse with Wound, Legendary Pink Dots, Soriah, George and Caplin, Green Milk from the Planet Orange, Coil, Volcano the Bear, Orbit Service, Andrew Liles, Daniel Menche, and too many more to even list!

It's as simple as listening Saturday, April 12th 2008from Noon to 1 PM Pacific Time (that's 3-5 PM for listeners on the U.S. East Coast, but you can call from anywhere else in the world too!)
and calling (503) 725-5945 to pledge your support for What's This Called? and KPSU!

STREAMING AUDIO RIGHT HERE!

Or for near by using the traditional radio:

1450 AM in the Portland OR/Vancouver WA metro area
98.1 FM on the Portland State University campus

The What's This Called? Pledge Drive show will feature some of the artists mentioned above as well as additional material from experimental and eclectic musicians including brand new releases from both Childhood Friends and Eet (both of who will be playing a KPSU benefit at Someday Lounge on 4/20 with Soriah and Metal!), Tuxedo Moon, Sonic Youth, Sun City Girls, Jandek, and who-knows-what-else?!

Some public and community stations hold their airwaves hostage during Pledge Drives and offer very little to the listeners who pledge, but not KPSU! We intend to thank you with incredible gifts and programming that sets the standard for what we do every day of the year.
