i think that's partly the point. there's a certain amount of humour to be found in black metal, some of those bands understand that venom weren't entirely serious about the who satanism malarkey, darkthrone are another BM band who i think can be taken with a degree of humour, although that doesn't mean that bands like that aren't serious about making awesome music.
obviously there are many other BM bands/people who are genuinely nasty or insane, e.g. burzum, graveland, drudkh... etc.

absolutley. ill admit it took me a long time to look past the racism, misogyny, homophobia, and all together the violent personalities that are prevalent in that whole scene, but then i realized hip hop has some of these same associations and decided to take them with a grain of salt and checked out a lot of the bands. I then realized that black metal is responsible for some of the most creative, sonically appealing, and funny agressive music ever. I actually owe it to my brother, hes big into black metal and he first got me into it by lending me darkthrone's "transylvanian Hunger", that ablum kinda opened my mind up to the music and is still my favorite Black Metal record.
