Why do you use caps on some phrases, like High Connections, and Veterans of Our Wars. That kind of crap bugs me.

Mailer's inconsistent. When he's on, he's great; when he's off, he's horrid. I couldn't stand Armies of the Night, but I liked Naked and Dead okay, and I think some of his shorter essays are outstanding. I think he's best at the personal essay sort of nonfiction. His magazine journalism in the 50s, early 60s, was pretty interesting, too.

I hope right now he's up there giving God hell, and maybe even a good punch in the stomach.
