Hmmmmm, I wouldn't say italians
hate americans as a whole...a few do, but if you're cool they won't care about your home country. Some hate them from a "political" pov, but I doubt you'll come over to have some press conference on your political ideas.
I wish I could take a train and drink something, but I'll be superbusy working and doing stuff this summer (hopefully), won't have much free time and money to spend for pleasure time.
As for Rome and Milan, I guess it depends on what you're going for...touristic/art trip or party clubs?
I'm not much informed on the newest trends in those cities, but i could ask a couple friends for suggestions. maybe update this thread when you're about to get here, will see if I can come up with decent suggestions.
