I dunno, it's like saying Pavement is the Weezer for "indie" kids. Obviously both bands have a very slackerish self-referential collegiate melodic pop style but obviously also Pavement aren't necassarily power pop and Weezer aren't exactly slacker rock. But, still, I think it's a fair statement.
And even though I don't personally think BYOP and Paramore sound identical, that wasn't my original point anyway; just kind of a "lack of a better thing to say"... I was just saying that they're an embarassing band to like.
Both bands have shitty music and are only popular because their lead singers are somewhat above decent in prettiness. It's all image.
