I started out listening to some classic rock, not a lot, but enough to make me a fan. That was in junior high, and I was just constantly ridiculed by people in my class for that (even the guys who are just now getting into the stuff years later) and it pretty much marked the beginning of me trying to be independent of my classmates and friends in general. So yeah, I was sort of bitter when lately some of them have been trying make friends with me based on what they claim is our "similar interests in music," wanting me to join their bands and other ridiculous things. That ship sailed years ago.
